A foreign friend and I have been regularly having tea with a believer friend and my non-believing neighbor. Since this past November, we have gotten these two women together, hoping to start a friendship and share truth. It took four times of them being together for my neighbor to decide that she liked our believing friend. My neighbor, “Ruth,” mentioned that she wanted to ask “N,” our believer friend, about how she became a Christian but she was too shy to ask. I told her to go for it and ask her because N would not be offended.
The next time we had tea, Ruth asked N about how she became a Christian. It was so great! N explained how Christians are not simply ‘religious’ in the sense that Muslims are and that we don’t do things with a point-system to get into heaven. She explained that by trusting in Christ as God’s Son we will go to heaven. Ruth later told me that she really enjoyed that conversation, and I told her that I had been trying for a year to explain to her what N said that one afternoon.
The next week, we all went to tea, and Ruth invited a friend. It didn’t go too well because that friend was very defensive about religion. N got to share, but it was not the best conversation. Ruth later apologized to me for her friend’s behavior.
Pray for Ruth to believe in this Jesus she heard explained to her! Pray that she will be a lighthouse for the light of the gospel to spread to all of her community! Pray for N to continue to grow in her boldness about what she believes and that the Lord would provide more opportunities for her to share with non-Christians in her city!
