A missionary in Central Asia had a couple of good conversations with her language tutor. They had one conversation in particular about the differences between Protestantism and Catholicism. The missionary was telling about how her father was a pastor, and the tutor asked if people needed to confess sins directly to him. The missionary was able to share that there is no need to confess sins to a priest; that because of what Christ did on the cross, believers can go directly to God through Jesus Christ.
On another occasion, as they were reading through a Psalm together, they had a good conversation about our need for complete dependence on God. The missionary didn’t have her Bible with her that day and asked if her tutor had one that she had given her months ago. She got it and together they read some verses in John, specifically in chapter 15, that apart from Christ we are nothing. The tutor began talking about how in the end, hopefully, God would forgive people, but that probably only “good” people would be forgiven. The missionary was able to teach some truths and explained that only through Jesus can we be forgiven and have a relationship with God.
