Like other Muslims, Rene still has a hard time seeing Jesus as more than just a prophet and mere human being. She was also wondering that if Jesus died as a sacrifice, how a sacrifice could be risen back to life. I was looking forward to addressing her question the next time we met, but that was the last time we were able to meet due to COVID-19.
I have heard questions like, “How could Jesus come back to life?” or “How is the resurrection of Jesus possible?” or “How could God raise Jesus from the dead?” And, I have been thankful to readily and confidently answer questions like these. But, when Rene wondered how a sacrifice could live again (understanding that a sacrifice must be slaughtered and die), I was actually bit startled and had to pause to think.
To Muslims, of course, sacrifice is a huge deal and is more real and personal than for most westerners. Is that not why we emphasize in our context, when we share the gospel, how Jesus is the ultimate and perfect sacrifice? Yes, Jesus is the ultimate and perfect sacrifice to atone for our sins, but He is also more than a sacrifice. He is God, Savior and Lord.
Please be in prayer for Rene.
