My friend Helene is a Kurd from Iran. In her home growing up, she spoke Kurdish with her parents and siblings but spoke Farsi in school. She is educated in Farsi, speaks Farsi with her husband and even dreams in Farsi.
A little over three years ago she got married then became a believer after seeing her husband’s faith. I met her right around Christmas time last year. A few of my friends wanted to study the Word together, and she came too. Her goal was to study the Word in Kurdish, so she could share with locals. She did not have a spiritual vocabulary in this language; she only had it in Farsi.
Yesterday at our study she said, “Angel, I started going to the gym last month to lose weight, and there’s a girl there that I got to share the gospel with! Because together we have studied the Old Testament, I was able to start with Adam and Eve and go through the prophets! At the end of me sharing with her, she was crying! Her name is Sharon. Sharon speaks Kurdish but can only read Arabic. So, the next time I went, I brought her a Bible and a pamphlet. She accepted the pamphlet but her husband won’t let her have the Bible. Every time I go, we spend time together and she listens to everything I have to say about God. Let’s pray for her and her husband right now!”
Praise the Lord!
